Day 4 At Olympics: Indian Contigent Moving At Slow Pace

Another day at the Tokyo Olympics and another set of heartbreaks for Indian fans. The wait for the second medal still continues for India. Just like the other day, the Indian contingent failed to do well in most of the games held tonight.

Shooting – 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team Qualifications:

The day started off with disappointing performances of two Indian pairs Manu Bhaker-Saurabh Chaudhary and Yashaswini Deswal-Abhishek Verma. The latter got knocked out in the first stage of qualification. Manu and Saurabh topped the first qualification stage but got crashed out in the second qualification stage.

Shooting – 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team Qualifications:

The double duo of Anjum Moudgil-Deepak Kumar and Elavenil Valarivan-Divyansh Panwar lost in the first stage of qualification by remaining in the 18th and 12th positions respectively. The top 8 have qualified for the next stage.

Hockey – Men’s Group Stage:

After a humiliating defeat against World Champions Australia in the previous game, Team India came back stronger and won today’s match against Spain with a score of 3-0. India is now in the second position on the points table.

Badminton – Men’s Doubles Group Stage:

This was a real heartbreak for fans because despite winning their third game against Britain duo, Indian pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty failed to qualify for the quarter-final. Though Chinese Taipei, India, and Indonesia have ended up with 2 wins each, Taipei and Indonesia qualified on the basis of no. of sets won.

Table Tennis – Men’s Singles 3rd Round:

India’s veteran Sharath Kamal gave his best in the third round against World Champion Ma Long but lost the match with a score of 4-1. Thus, he ended his fourth Olympic campaign without winning a medal.

Boxing – Round of 16 – Women’s Welter (64-69kg):

23-year-old Assamese boxer Lovlina Borgohain won the pre-quarterfinal match against German pugilist Nadine Apetz with a score of 3:2. She has now qualified for the quarterfinals and is just one step away from securing a medal.

Sailing – Various Events

Vishnu Saravanan finished 23rd in race 4 in Men’s one-person dinghy laser. He is in the 26th position after race 4. He climbed up the ladder after the fifth race and ended up in an overall position of 22. He improved further and after the sixth race, he went to the 12th position. The seventh and eighth races will be held on July 29.

Nethra Kumanan finished 38th in race 6 in Women’s one-person dinghy laser radial. She is in the 33rd position overall.

In men’s skiff 49er, Indian duo KC Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar finished in 18th position of 19 in race 1. The second and third races will be held tomorrow.
