India’s Olympics Day 14: Too Many Heartbreaks

The penultimate day of the Tokyo Olympics remained a disappointing one for India. While the Women’s Hockey team lost in the bronze medal match, the Gold medal contender Bajrang Punia was defeated in the semifinals. The only good thing is golfer Aditi Ashok has continued her supreme form today as well. Here is the detailed report of India at the Olympics today.

Hockey – Women’s Bronze Medal Match:

Though our girls fought hard till the last minute, they were defeated by Great Britain with a score of 3-4 in the bronze medal match. Though they didn’t win the medal, Indian Women’s Hockey players have won our hearts and inspired millions of people across the country.

Wrestling – Men’s Freestyle 65 kg:

There were a lot of expectations on star wrestler Bajrang Punia. Many hoped that he will bring a gold or silver medal for sure. However, he was defeated in the semifinals by Azerbaijan wrestler Haji Aliyev with a score of 12-5. Bajrang will fight for the bronze tomorrow.

Wrestling – Women’s 50kg:

Senior wrestler Seema Bisla got knocked out in the first round itself as she lost to Sarra Hamdi of Tunisia with a score of 1-3. Seema didn’t qualify for the repechage as well because her opponent was defeated in the quarterfinals.

Athletics – Men’s 50km Race Walk Final:

Athlete Gurpreet Singh failed to finish the 50km race as he pulled out of the event at the 35km mark due to cramps. He was at the 51st position at the 35km mark with a time of 2 hr 55 minutes and 19 seconds.

Athletics – Women’s 20km Race Walk:

India’s Priyanka Goswami finished the race in 17th position by clocking 1 hour 32 minutes 32 seconds. She also missed out on the 2022 World Championship qualifying mark of 1 hour 31 minutes.

Another athlete Bhawna Jatt finished in the 32nd position by clocking 1 hour 37 minutes 38 seconds.

Athletics – Men’s 4*400m Relay:

The group of Amoj Jacob, Arokia Rajiv, Nirmal Noah Tom and Muhammed Anas created history by setting up a new Asian record by clocking 3:00.25. They missed qualifying for the finals by a whisker. With their brilliant effort, India remained in the 9th position and the top eight teams have qualified for the finals.

Golf – Women:

Golfer Aditi Ashok is continuing her surprise run at the Olympics. For the third consecutive day, she remained in the second position and filled the medal hopes among fans. After three rounds, she is 12 under par (-12) with a total score of 201.

Another golfer Diksha Dagar is tied at the 51st position after three rounds, 7 over par (+7) with a total score of 220 points.
