“Horrible People On Social Media”: Maxwell On Brutal Trolls

Glenn Maxwell turned out to be the best signing from the action after he fetched a whopping Rs 14.25 crore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 auction by Royal Challengers Bangalore. Though the batsman gave several best performances and lifted RCB to a new level altogether, the franchise was knocked out of the tournament. This, in turn, leaves Maxwell subjected to abuse on social media.

RCB bowled out of the IPL 2021 in the Eliminator against Kolkata Knight Riders. Maxwell emerged as the team’s top-scoring batter with 513 runs at an average of 42.75 and a strike rate of 144.10, giving him the credit of being the biggest lift in performance. But the team could not go forward. However, more than this, what happened next left Maxwell infuriated.

“Some of the garbage that has been following on social media is absolutely disgusting!” Maxwell wrote in a post on Twitter. “We are human beings who are giving our best each and every day. Try being a decent person maybe instead of spreading abuse. Thank you to the REAL fans that shared love and appreciation for the players giving their all! Unfortunately, there is some horrible people out there that make social media a horrible place to be. It is unacceptable!!! Please don’t be like them.”

Maxwell further warned those who are posting abusive comments on his and his teammates’ accounts that they will be blocked for their acts. Sadly, not only Maxwell but even RCB all-rounder Dan Chrisitan also faced trolls as he struggled in the game against KKR, conceding 29 runs from just 10 balls while scoring just 9 runs from 8. Shockingly, some people bombarded his partner’s social media account for Christian’s performance.

The veteran Aussie all-rounder requested the trolls to keep his partner out of the drama. “I didn’t have a great game tonight, but that’s sport. However please leave her out of it,” wrote the Aussie. Currently, RCB is looking for a new captain as skipper Virat Kohli stepped down.
