A while ago, an Indian Air Force helicopter crashed in Coonoor in Nilgiris district of Tamilnadu state and the reports say that 4 people are dead in the crash. A top defence official is on board and the chopper crashed near a training capt at the Wellington Army Centre in Coonoor.
The reports reveal that the bodies of four people who were killed in the crash have been retrieved and three others traveling the chopper have been injured seriously. The treatment is being given to the injured at a hospital near Coonoor.
Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat was also on board the chopper, but there is no official clarity on his health condition. According to a report on ANI, Rawat, his staff, and some family members were in the Mi-series chopper.
Confirming the crash, The Indian Air Force posted a tweet. “An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. An Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.”
As soon as the crash took place, the army officials and the local police rushed to the spot and carried out the rescue operations. Two bodies with 80 percent burns have been rushed to a local hospital.
The chopper had taken off from Sulur and was on its way to Wellington Army Centre.
The cause of the accident is currently unknown and more details are awaited.
