In one of the biggest divorce settlements, the UK court orders the ruler of Dubai to pay his ex-wife, a huge $728 million.
Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid al-Maktoum has to pay his ex-wife Princess Haya bint a-Hussein more than 500 million euros. The mammoth amount will be used to cover Princess Haya’s security costs for the rest of her life, as well as ongoing costs for the couple’s two children.
An upfront payment of $333 million is due in the next three months. Though there is no fixed value on the total settlement, the court ruled Sheikh Mohammad should pay the annual security costs of his two children for the rest of their lives or until a further court order is issued.
Also, the written judgment stated that Princess Haya and her children are facing the biggest threat from the Sheikh himself and not from anyone outside.
Earlier, Sheikh allegedly used Pegasus software which is available only to governments to spy on the Princess and her staff. Princess Haya as well, reportedly paid four security staff up to $8.8 million in blackmail money to stay silent over an affair she had with one of them.
