Due to a technical malfunction, as mentioned by the Defence Ministry of India, a missile was accidentally fired from the Indian side into the airspace of Pakistan. Indian Defence Ministry acknowledged the same and called the incident ‘deeply regrettable’.
The accidental firing happened on March 9 in the course of routine maintenance. The missile flew more than 100 km inside their airspace and at an altitude of 40,000 feet before it landed. Though it landed, it did not detonate as there was no warhead.
Pakistan’s foreign office said it has summoned India in charge in Islamabad to protest and called it an unprovoked violation of its airspace. Pakistan also called for an investigation into it.
Indian military experts were puzzled since the firing of a missile system involves a preparation process, target identification, and many switches.
