‘Shot’ Double-Meaning Ad, Govt Serious!

The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has asked Twitter and YouTube to take down the advertisements that were filmed in a manner they encouraged the rape culture. The MIB has issued a statement regarding the same earlier in the day.

It was the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) that found the ads in serious breach of content and against public interest. Following ASCI’s notice, the MIB stepped up and asked both Twitter and YouTube to take down the videos which were being aired in respective channels.

The perfume ad reportedly belongs to Layer’s Shot and this video was flagged on YouTube by many users who watched it. In one of the two ads, four guys can be seen in a supermarket and a woman walks past them. The four guys stare at Layer’s Shot perfume but they ask among themselves ‘Who will take the shot?”

The second ad has a young couple in a bedroom and four men enter without knocking. They randomly ask a double-meaning question to the woman before proceeding to take the ‘Shot’ perfume kept on a table.

Rape against women has become serious concerns in our society. Despite adequate measures being taken by the respective government and security agencies, the crime rate against women hasn’t fallen. The rape of a minor girl in Hyderabad happens to be yet another sensational episode with political influential people behind it. Such content in ads only adds fuel to the fire.
