A cloudburst near the Amarnath shrine killed 15 people and more than 40 went missing. The yatra has been suspended for now. A cloudburst is heavy rain in a very short period in an area.
Community kitchens and tents near the cave shrine were washed away during the cloudburst. The spokesperson of Indo-Tibetan Border Police said the situation is under control but rains are still happening. If the weather comes to normal, the yatra can be resumed tomorrow.
Disaster management agencies and Army helicopters have launched the rescue operation.
The heavy rains caused the water to flow from all sides of the cave. The injured are being airlifted for treatment.
Five bodies were retrieved so far, three were women among them.
