US: Indian Woman Dies In Small Plane Crash, Daughter Critical

An Indian mother-daughter duo was on board the small plane that crashed in Long Island. The incident killed the mother Roma Gupta (63) on the spot and Reeva Gupta (23) suffered critical injuries. The flight instructor (23) was also in critical condition on Monday, according to the Danny Waizman Flight School, which owns the plane. The plane crashed near 5th Street and North Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst while approaching Republic Airport in Farmingdale.

The pilot reported smoke in the cockpit before crashing. The pilot of this single-engine plane declared an emergency while returning to Republic Airport in Farmingdale Sunday afternoon. Multiple home security cameras captured the fiery crash.

“The two patients critically injured, severely burned, to my knowledge they were pulled from the plane from a civilian,” North Lindenhurst Fire Dept. Chief Kenny Stallone said.

Reeva Gupta was admitted to Stony Brook Hospital with third-degree burns. She is a physician’s assistant in the Mount Sinai System. The attorney for the flight school says the pilot Fayzul Chowdhury had all his ratings and certifications and even the plane had just passed two stringent inspections.

The Indian mon and daughter reportedly received a promotional coupon from Groupon for a demonstration flight. The attorney says it’s not considered an actual flight lesson but an introductory flight to see if people are interested.
