Amazon To Lay Off 9000 More Employees

The major IT companies are not done with their layoff process. After Meta announced recently that they will be removing 10,000 workers, another tech giant Amazon announced today that the company plans to lay off another 9,000 employees.

Amazon earlier announced that it will be removing 18,000 in January and the latest announcement is on top of that. The tech giants are said to have been believing they are overstaffed and hence the second round of cuts.

The new layoffs will be from Amazon’s advertising, Twitch, Amazon Web Services, and PTX (People, experiences, and tech) units.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy explains why they didn’t announce these role reductions with the ones they announced a couple of months ago.

‘The short answer is that not all of the teams were done with their analyses in the late fall; and rather than rush through these assessments without the appropriate diligence, we chose to share these decisions as we’ve made them so people had the information as soon as possible’, he said.
