US: Record One-Day High Covid Cases, Soon To Hit Six Digits

The efforts and measures that are taken all these months in the US to control the spread of Coronavirus appear to be going in vain. The country has seen the highest number of cases registered in a day on Thursday with around 80,000 cases since the pandemic began. The number of cases on Friday alone has gone to 83,000 which is the highest number in a day so far, setting a new record.

The health experts and researchers are warning that the number is likely to go much higher and it would be no surprise if the number of cases in a day in the US could be a six-digit. The highest number of cases before Friday in the US is 77,000 in July.

The sudden surge in the cases seems mainly due to the small gatherings, mostly family events. The virus is spreading faster with these small events that have to move indoors. The governor of Maryland said the house parties are the culprits in the transmission of the virus and the North Carolina health officials also report large cases from social and religious gatherings.

The US had seen a big surge in the number of cases after days from Memorial Day in May and with the Halloween and Thanksgiving holidays ahead, the experts are worried about seeing a large spike in cases along with the increase in hospitalizations.

Mask Mandate

34 States in the US have seen a sudden increase in the number of Covid-19 cases and also the hospitalizations. Health experts are strongly advising to make the mask mandatory in all the states as the forecasting team at Washington University’s evaluation shows that 100,000 lives could be saved through February if 95 percent of Americans wore masks in public.

Vaccine Is Not Coming In 2020

The Director at the National Institutes of Health Dr. Francis Collins said the vaccine could be authorized by the end of the year but might take longer, hinting that it is not coming this year.

AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine trials resumed Friday after it is confirmed that the volunteers’ getting sick is not due to the drugs.

In another context, the health experts opine that this Covid-19 will be staying around for more years of only half of the Americans are willing to get vaccinated, when it is available.
