Lyricist Javed Akhtar has vented out his anger at Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut by filing a criminal complaint against her for defamatory statements against him on various news channels. The complaint has been filed before the Metropolitan Magistrate at Andheri, Mumbai.
The complaint stated that Ranaut tarnished Akhtar’s reputation, during an interview to a news channel, through her statements. The lyricist urged the court to go for proceedings against Kangana Ranaut stating that the video interview garnered views in lakhs.
He said that Kangana Ranaut dragged his name unnecessarily into the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.
The actress has been vociferously fighting against nepotism in Bollywood which she said led to the death of Sushant and has often taken to Twitter to express her views, even when she did not have an official handle of her own.
She has also given interviews to various news channels on nepotism in Bollywood. She has gone as far as to say that she will return her Padma Shri if she is unable to prove her allegations.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra home on June 14. A CBI investigation regarding the same is underway.
Now, Javed Akhtar will have to verify to the court that a complaint has been filed by him. The verification of the complaint is still pending. Akhtar’s lawyer, Niranjan Mundargi, refused to divulge details of the complaint.
However, it is learnt that Akhtar has asked for a defamation case to be registered against Kangana Ranaut under section 499 and 500 of IPC.
The first hearing of the case is reportedly scheduled for December 3, 2020.
Meanwhile, the actress is in her hometown in Himachal Pradesh.
