US President Joe Biden passed legislation that would ban TikTok in the US if the app’s parent company, ByteDance doesn’t sell it before January 19h, 2025.
TikTok and ByteDance filed an emergency injunction on December 9 asking Supreme Court to pause and review the legislation before January and it was denied on December 13.
TikTok has been a popular brand to reach Gen Zers. Many Gen Zers make money from social media and the income through TikTok and the ban might hit their side-hustle.
However, President-elect Donald Trump said on Monday that he has a ‘warm spot’ for TikTok as he believes the app helped him gain ground with young voters in the 2024 Presidential election.
Signed by Joe Biden, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act will make TikTok illegal distribution in the US if ByteDance cannot sell the platform by Jan 19, 2025.
