US President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering an executive order that would stop the enforcement of the TikTok ban for 60 to 90 days.
TikTok will be banned in the US on January 19 unless the Supreme Court accepts a legal bid from its Chinese Owner ByteDance.
The US would ban TikTok by ordering app stores like Google PlayStore and Apple App Store to make it unavailable for download. However, the people who have already got it would still be able to have it on their phones, with no new updates ultimately leaving the app unusable.
Why is TikTok getting banned in the US?
The US government has raised concerns about TikTok due to issues related to data privacy and national security. Chinese company ByteDance owns TikTok and the US believes that the user data collected by TikTok could be accessed by the Chinese government.
