Amid the recent TikTok ban, Instagram has announced a video editing app called ‘Edits’.
Edits will allow the creation of videos up to 10 minutes long and in 1080p resolution. Edits will also offer artificial intelligence animation, generative captions, overlays, text, sound and voice effects filters, and stickers. The app is only available for free pre-order download from Apple’s App Store but will be available for download from Google’s Play Store later.
Edits would most likely be available in February, but Apple’s App Store has it expected to be available by March 13.
Edits is clearly a rival to CapCut, again owned by TikTok’s parent company ByteDance. CapCut was also in the TikTok banning controversy and is currently unlisted from the App Store and is inaccessible to users in the US.
TikTok has returned temporarily, but CapCut is still not downloadable or usable for now.
