The major vaccine developers for Covid-19 have made claims yesterday. Pfizer Inc and BioNTech, on earlier Monday, made a statement that their vaccine is more than 90% effective. Later Monday, a representative of the health ministry said Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine against Covid-19 is more than 90% effective.
The director of a research institute under the health ministry, Oksana Drapkina said they are responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of the Sputnik V vaccine among the citizens who received it in a mass vaccination program. Drapkina called it good news after Sputnik V also is found to be 90% effective.
Pfizer and BioNTech released successful data from a large clinical trial of the vaccine and revealed they found no serious safety concerns and are soon expecting US authorization this month for emergency use of the vaccine.
Pfizer’s Chairman and Chief executive Albert Bourla said ‘Today is a great day for science and humanity. We are reaching this clinical milestone in our vaccine development program at a time when the world needs it most with infection rates setting new records’. If Pfizer’s vaccine is approved and authorized, the initial number of doses will be limited.
