US citizens take to streets opposing Trump’s policies

While the Donald Trump government’s tariffs have rattled several nations, citizens in the US are feeling the heat of new policies and cut in federal spending.

People in the US are opposing the “dictatorship” of Trump’s governance. People took to the streets to protest against Trump and Elon Musk across all the 50 states, led by a pro-democracy movement, which they called a hostile takeover and attack on American rights and freedoms.

As many as 1,400 ‘Hands Off’ mass-action protests were held at state capitols, federal buildings, congressional offices, Social Security’s headquarters, parks and city halls throughout the entire country. The protesters said that Trump’s administration as an attack on the democracy. The event organisers said that the protests were meant for participation of people who were affected by slashing of jobs, invasion of privacy, or assault on their services. Over 6 lakh people signed up to attend the events, some of which took place in London and Paris.

The protesters have three main demands: ending the billionaire takeover and rampant corruption of the Trump administration, an end to slashing federal funds for Medicaid, Social Security, ending the attacks on immigrants, trans people and other communities.” At the protest in Washington DC, speakers said there is no future with a president who has “the politics of Mussolini and the economics of Herbert Hoover.”

Since Trump assumed office, the efforts to cut federal spending, regardless of who it may harm, have increased. Thousands of federal workers have been laid off or issued immediate termination notifications as part of Trump and Musk’s plan to downsize the federal government. Trump and Musk together dismantled foreign aid programmes that support fragile democracies abroad and put several federal works protecting US elections at home on leave.
