Hyd: Miss World Contestants to Dazzle in Sarees

The 75th Miss World pageant to be hosted by Telangana in May this year is being planned to be a showstopper with the contestants sporting traditional sarees.

In tune with the Telangana government’s ideology to strive for recognition to handlooms and hand-crafted textiles, arrangements have been made to include exclusive handloom sarees. In fact, exhibiting the hand-woven sarees would be the main theme of the fashion show.

Ahead of the global event, the contestants of the pageant would be touring Pochampalli, the hub of handlooms in Telangana, under the guidance of the tourism officials. Accompanied by their representatives from Europe, the participants would go on an elaborate tour of the textile village to understand and gain knowledge about the intricacies and labour involved in producing the hand-woven textiles. The Telangana government is of the opinion that the participants would give the much-needed push for promoting the stunning hand-crafted sarees, getting clad in the six-yard magic.

The officials believe that elegance and grace of the contestants in displaying the creative designs through exotic draping would spark renewed interest among women in the state and country, along with their counterparts in foreign countries.

Telangana is home to other renowned handloom formats like the Gadwal and Narayanpet, apart from the popular Pochampalli and Ikkat. As the participants of the pageant would include young females from across the world, the Telangana government hopes it would help reach out to the fashion enthusiasts and style symbols in various countries in the most appropriate manner.

The Miss World pageant would be organized in Telangana from May 7 to 31.
