Apple’s Shock To Trump : The Deal Is Still On With India

The President of United States, Donald Trump is known for his highly intrusive public statements. He carried on this track again as he asked Apple CEO Tim Cook to avoid investing in India, saying “They can take care of themselves.”

“I told Tim Cook we’re not interested in you building (Apple) in India, they can take care of themselves, you up your production here (US),” Trump stated as he publicly urged Tim Cook to avoid investment exploration in India and instead stick to the U.S.

However, according to a report from CNBC, the Apple’s leadership has stuck firm with India. They have reportedly affirmed India that it is “Business as usual” and there would be no change in their manufacturing establishments in the country.

Apple had reportedly confirmed to India that they wouldn’t be changing any of their investment and manufacturing facilities in the country regardless of Trump’s vocal instructions. This could be considered as a strong rebuke from Apple to Trump regarding his advise to move out of India.

At a time when China is no longer looking like a viable option for Apple in view of the tariff war between US and China, Apple is actively perusing their opportunities in India and looking to consolidate the same. Moreover, India is reportedly offering the lowest of low tariffs to Apple for their large scale manufacturing business here in the country.

At this point, the statement from Trump was bound to be largely inconsequential and the same is turning out to be the case with the latest internal assessments of Apple.
