How AI Threat To Earth’s Population In Future

Artificial Intelligence could prove to be a threat not just jobs alone but to planet earth. AI can have devastating effects like shrinking the earth’s population to only a meagre 100 million people by the year 2300, a drastic drop from the current estimated population of 8 billion, according to a US-based tech expert.

Subhash Kak, a professor in computer sciences at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, predicted that the population collapse is likely to occur not due to any nuclear holocaust but rather very softly and subtly through AI replacing people’s jobs. As per New York Post, Kak said that AI would have devastating effects on the society. People do not have a clue. Though computers or robots will not be conscious, they will be doing literally all that we do because most of what we do in our lives can be replaced, he felt.

Author of “Age of Artificial Intelligence”, Kak predicts that birth rates will plunge as people would be reluctant to give birth to children who could remain unemployed. Without people making babies, the global population will suffer an apocalyptic blow. “Demographers are suggesting that as a result, the world population will collapse and it could go down to as low as a meagre 100 million people on the entire planet Earth by 2300 or 2380.

Backing up his argument, Kak cited the example of Europe, China, Japan and South Korea where the population decline has been prominent in recent years. However, he said that the trends might not continue but it would be very hard to reverse them. AI experts across the world are aware of the job threat due to the new technology even when the common public is completely unaware of it.
