Elon vs Trump: Is a New Political Party on the Horizon?

After his discord with US President Donald Trump, Tesla CEO and billionaire Elon Musk launched a poll on Thursday whether it was time to create a new political party in America that “actually represents the 80% in the middle”. He conducted the poll among more than 200 million followers. Musk’s poll went viral and garnered 4,143,244 votes and 81 per cent of them voted ‘yes’ to his question.

Meanwhile, Musk answered a conservative who felt that Republicans will have to choose between the two men, by saying: “Trump has 3.5 years left as President, but I will be around for 40+ years…” The feud between Elon and Trump started when the latter expressed his disappointment with Elon to the reporters in the Oval Office, for coming against his ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’ Trump said that Musk is only looking out for himself and ‘went CRAZY’ because the bill slashes electric vehicle credits and Musk also misses the access to the Oval Office.

Musk’s online poll evoked mixed reaction from netizens. While some said that they agreed with Musk launching a new political party completely, a few others said it should be floated as early as June 5 and also termed it as “Start of the Second American Revolution!”  A few others said that it would be better if Trump and Musk talk in private and resolve the differences. Some others said that a new political party isn’t going to change anything and that the debt will continue to spike higher irrespective of government spending being cut or not.

In a post on X, Musk said that Trump would not have won the election without him. “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” he wrote, and then added, “Such ingratitude”. Trump also agreed to rift with Musk. He recalled that Elon and he had a great relationship. “I don’t know if we will anymore.”
