With Artificial Intelligence (AI) taking over the tech industry by storm and client needs also transforming due to the changing demand, Indian tech giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) plans to reorient around 1,00,000 employees every year, which accounts to roughly one-sixth of its global workforce, according to Nikkei Asia.
TCS Chief Technology Officer Harrick Vin told Nikkei Asia that the rise of generative AI has brought about a transformation unlike any other technological wave. AI tools capable of learning and evolving on their own demand a new kind of testing and quality assurance, Vin said.
In view of the drastic changes, the tech firm is redesigning its internal learning programs. As part of it, over 1,00,000 employees would be retrained every year. The employees would be encouraged to experiment with AI tools and participate in hackathons also to gain practical knowledge. Vin said that the transformation is challenging but every organization will have to undergo the process.
Global Expansion
Apart from retraining the workforce, TCS is expanding globally. Recently, TCS announced plans to create 5,000 new jobs in the UK over the next three years. It has launched an AI Experience Zone and Design Studio in London, the company’s second largest design hub after New York.
For over five decades, UK has been one of TCS’ key markets, where the company supports nearly 42,000 jobs. These new hubs, modelled on its flagship PacePort facility, will promote innovation and client collaboration.
Profits
For the July-September quarter, TCS reported a consolidated net profit of ₹12,075 crore, up 1.4 per cent from the previous year. Chief Executive K Krithivasan said the company’s “deep client engagement and AI-led solutions” would help improve growth momentum in the coming quarters.
