Tech billionaire Elon Musk reiterated that humans can spend their time in their favourite avocations after AI takes over every job. He visions that in the future, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robots would take over all the jobs. Humans need not work and can grow vegetables, he said. This sounds amazing but where will the money come from is the billion dollar question.
With many tech giants taking up retrenchment drives and laying off thousands of workers as they can view humans would be replaced by AI in the nearest future, it has to be seen how people can earn and sustain. However, Musk says that AI would give more freedom to humans. Instead of a bleak future, the Tesla CEO says humans will have an opportunity to break free from forced work every day. “Working will be optional, like growing your own vegetables, instead of buying them from the store.”
Recently Musk, in reply to a post on X on Amazon’s plan to cut over 1,60,000 jobs by 2027 as workers would be replaced with AI and robots, said: “AI and robots will replace all jobs.”
While the public have apprehensions over being thrown out of jobs and without income once AI takes over all sectors, Elon Musk feels otherwise. He claimed that the world would have “universal high income.” When AI takes over jobs, humans will have high income that would enable them to sustain their lifestyles without having to work. The idea would seem really exciting and beautiful in theory but would it take shape in reality is doubtful.
Musk mentioned of such a possibility in the past at the VivaTech 2024 conference in Paris. He said that there was an 80 per cent chance of such a future, with no shortage of goods and services. It is worth noting that Musk himself is leading xAI to build an AI-only software company, named Macrohard. So can one start dreaming of the future predicted by Elon Musk?
