In another tragic incident, six people were feared dead and many were injured due to a collision between a goods train and a passenger train near Jairamnagar station in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh. The accident happened around 4 PM today and rescue operations are currently underway by the Railway authorities.
Reports suggest that a local train ( MEMU No. 68733) travelling from Gevra Road to Bilaspur rammed into a Goods train stationed at Lal Khandan Area between Gatora and Bilaspur stations. The impact of the collision was very high that some boogies of the passenger train climbed on the Goods train and also derailed multiple coaches and damaged the overhead wires and signalling systems.
As per preliminary reports, the accident occured because the loco pilot of the passenger train failed to notice the signal and ran into the rear side of the Goods train. The accident has led to the cancellation of several trains in the same route and also delayed some long distance trains. Railway rescue teams rushed to the spot along with RPF personnel and medical emergency staff to treat the injured and supervise the operations.
Some people sustained serious injuries and many were trapped under the coaches of passenger train. Some of them have been rescued and shifted to the nearby hospitals.
