Social media has gone from being a networking medium to a decisive platform that could potentially dictate the fate of the government as well. Subsequently, a lot of emphasis is being placed on the content that is created on social media these days.
The same can be understood if we look at the fact that young MP Raghav Chadda belonging to AAP Punjab proposed a new social media bill in the Parliament today.
Raghav Chaddha proposed the idea of imposing a new social media bill that would regulate the copyright infringement activities that have been happening on social media these days.
“In the recent past, social media platforms have been very irrational and unpredictable when it comes to deleting creator accounts in the name of copyright infringement.
Even two or three seconds audio or visual of a piece of content is getting the creator’s video or the entire channel removed from platforms like YouTube and Instagram. The process is very volatile and individualistic. We must bring more regularised policy that would moralise such action. In the social media era, Freewill and freedom of speech is important that we can’t have selective copyright strike to remove certain accounts.”
The implication that was given by the young MP is that only certain creator accounts are being targeted through this copyright infringement system and said this selective approach must be eradicated.
This is a very strong point made by the MP as it brings a very much buzzing topic to discussion. But it has to be seen if the central government would take this on priority and act accordingly.
