New Year Makes Work Life Tough for Wipro Employees?

The New Year has made life tough for the employees of IT giant Wipro.

Effective from January 1,  the IT services firm has made its work from office policy more stringent. According to the new rules, employees have to stay in the office for six hours mandatorily.

At present, Wipro is following a hybrid work model as part of which employees have to compulsorily work from from office three days in a week.

Wipro has made it clear to its 2,34,000 employees that those not meeting the weekly attendance rule will have their leaves deducted. Those spending less that six hours in the office on the particular day when they attend the office will get half-day leave deducted from their leave quota.

The six-hour duration in office refers to the minimum time but does not mean it is total working time, which can extend up to 9.5 hours.

The changes in the rules have been communicated to the employees through an internal email.

According to a report in Economic Times, Wipro will continue to allow for temporary remote working but the number of days allowed under the rule have been reduced to 12 from 15 in a calendar year. When they work from home temporarily, the employees can attend to their illnesses, other health needs, basing on the requirement.

The change in rules over work from office have been brought into implementation as the $283 billion IT industry is facing sluggish growth, as many of the companies are switching to artificial intelligence, gradually shifting away from the people-led delivery model.
