India is one of the fastest growing e-commerce markets in the world and has been registering a very successful and effective quick delivery operation. Several applications and platforms had been offering quick delivery services in just 10 minutes span to customers and that was catching on very rapidly.
However, the gig workers union had recently protested the same and pointed out that such quick delivery options will add pressure on delivery workers and pose a threat to their safety.
In this context, the centre intervened and issued a new set of directives to the leading platforms offering these quick grocery delivery services.
Major quick-commerce platforms in India, including Blinkit, Zepto, Zomato, and Swiggy-Instamart, have discontinued their 10-minute delivery promise following government intervention. As mentioned, this decision comes amidst concerns that were raised about the pressure and stressful working conditions faced by gig workers.
Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya reportedly met these company representatives to address these issues, leading to the removal of the 10-minute delivery promise from company branding and applications.
However, it remains unclear whether this move amounts to a mere rebranding of the promise or an actual withdrawal of the 10-minute delivery service from the platforms.
