One of the leading luxury car manufacturers in the world, BMW, which is a German based automobile company has done something extremely unexpected. The company has called back several lakhs of cars globally citing the imminent fire risk that they might have.
According to the latest global media reports, BMW is recalling about 575,000 vehicles worldwide due to a fire risk linked to defective starter motors.
The recall affects 16 models produced between July 2020 and July 2022, including BMW series and the Toyota Supra, which shares parts with the BMW Z4. The issue involves excessive wear in the starter motor’s magnetic switch that can cause engine starting problems and potential fires.
Generally, such luxury car manufacturers are very particular about the design, designing, and safety standards of their vehicles. But there appears to be a major lapse in the mentioned series of BMW cars, which has necessitated a global recall now.
On a related note, it must be expected that BMW sales in India will also be increasing soon as the European Union has signed a free trade agreement with India, which would reduce the prices of these luxury European cars in India.
