A tragic explosion at a fireworks manufacturing unit in Kakinada on Saturday afternoon claimed the lives of 18 workers. The blast occurred at Surya Sri Fireworks in Vetlapalem village. Most of those who died are reported to be women working inside the unit at the time.
Due to the force of the explosion, some bodies were thrown into nearby fields. Eight others were seriously injured in the incident and were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the tragedy. He was on a visit to Vizianagaram when he received the information and immediately spoke to officials, directing them to ensure quick rescue and relief measures. He also asked Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha to rush to the spot and monitor the situation.
Officials said the government will provide full support and necessary assistance to the affected families.
