Hyderabad is known for its dry heat conditions which can be very challenging on the body. And already the temperatures have started to reach 41 to 43°C across the city, and this is not going to be an easy summer for everyone.
In accordance with this, the city population is now having to depend on air conditioners, coolers, fans and other appliances to beat the heat. This has resulted in a sharp increase in the volume of electricity consumption across the city.
On Friday itself, Hyderabad city reportedly consumed, 100 million units in a single. This is the first time in the history of GHMC that the city has consumed 100 million units in a single day and it’s a new all time record of the highest proportion.
As of now, there are 54 lakh power connections for residential and commercial outlets across the city. This has been steadily going up by a margin of 10 to 15% every year due to the increasing population and related offsets.
To put that into perspective, the average single day consumption bank in 2021 was 55 million units and this was beaten by nearly double margin on a single day in 2026(Friday). This number is only going to go consistently due to the increasing IT corridor and related operations.
