Bad News : US – Iran war not ending anytime sooner ?

Even as people across the globe are expecting the three month long West Asia crisis to end amid recent positive negotiations by both sides, the military forces of USA and Iran seem to be complicating the peace process by repeated violation of ceasefire.

Despite Trump’s positive statements last Saturday, both sides have resumed attacks and the fresh strikes by USA near the Strait of Hormuz hint that the war is far from over and there seems to be no respite anytime sooner as peace talks continue to hang in balance due to lack of proper consensus over the deal conditions.

On Tuesday, forces of USA have reportedly blasted Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) boats and also targeted missile launch sites laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz as part of its self defence strikes. The US Central Command claimed that they carried out these attacks to protect their troops from the threats posed by the Iranian forces.

In this attack, Iranian vessels and the missile site were completely destroyed. Iranian media also alleged that blasts took place in Bandar Abbas and some parts of Southern coast. The IRGC accused USA of violating the ceasefire and warned of retaliatory measures if they continue attacks.

This development comes just a couple of days after Trump hinted that the deal with Iran is almost sealed and signalled that the war will end very soon. US Secretary Marco Rubio also expressed optimism about the ongoing truce talks with Iran and said that both sides likely to announce a 60 day ceasefire agreement during which the maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz will be allowed completely.

Unfortunately, what followed after these positive statements is quite opposite and appears to make matters worse because any further escalation might resume another full fledged military operation between both sides, leading to a similar crisis like it was a few weeks ago.

There has already been a huge disruption in the energy sources due to choke in the supply of fuel and natural gas through the Strait of Hormuz. The global oil markets are feeling the pressure due to this crisis and any prolonged disruption would only make it worse from bad.
