Indian Killed in Russia Ukraine War Weeks Before Wedding

The Russia Ukraine war has claimed another Indian life. Akhil Joyan, a 26 year old sailor from Kerala, was killed in a Russian missile attack on a cargo ship near Ukraine’s Odesa port.

Akhil had been working as a sailor for the last six years. He recently returned to Kerala for his engagement and was set to get married in just two months. His family said he was planning to leave his current job after the wedding and start a new chapter in life.

The cargo ship was carrying 17 crew members, including five Indians, when it came under attack. Four Indian crew members lost their lives, while another Indian sailor was injured and is receiving treatment.

Akhil’s family received the heartbreaking news from the shipping company. He was the only son in the family and their main source of support. His sudden death has left relatives and friends in deep shock.

The Ministry of External Affairs is working with the Kerala government and other authorities to bring his mortal remains back to India.
