Hyd Techie Fired After Family Emergency, Protests Outside Office!

Layoffs, mounting work pressure, and alleged workplace harassment have become growing concerns for thousands of IT employees. While many continue to endure difficult work environments to safeguard their livelihoods, others choose to speak out. One such case has now gone viral, involving a Hyderabad-based software engineer who has accused her employer of workplace harassment and staged a silent protest outside the company’s office in Rayadurgam.

Bhavana, who joined Tech Mahindra around five months ago, alleged that she fell seriously ill while working and had to avail a month-long medical leave. However, despite informing the company about her health condition, she claimed she was repeatedly pressured to resume work before recovering.

According to her, the company continued sending emails directing her to report to the office. She further alleged that when her husband contacted the company on her behalf, officials refused to entertain the communication, insisting that only the employee could respond. Bhavana also claimed she received warning emails stating that disciplinary action, including termination, could follow if she failed to return to work immediately.

After completing her medical leave, Bhavana said she attempted to rejoin work but encountered fresh difficulties. She alleged that transportation arrangements provided by the company, including office cab services, were not properly coordinated, making it difficult for her to attend work on certain days. Despite these hurdles, she eventually resumed her duties.

According to Bhavana, the workplace environment became increasingly stressful after her return. She alleged that her supervisors frequently questioned her movements, including asking for explanations whenever she stepped away from her workstation to use the washroom. She claimed she had never experienced such treatment in any organisation and described the repeated questioning as humiliating.

Bhavana further alleged that the situation worsened when her young daughter fell ill. She informed the company about the family emergency and requested understanding so she could attend to her child. However, she claims her concerns were ignored.

Bhavana has alleged that she was eventually terminated from her job in violation of labour laws. She has filed a police complaint accusing the company of workplace harassment and unlawful termination. In addition, she has launched a silent protest outside the Tech Mahindra office in Hyderabad’s Rayadurgam, demanding justice.

Meanwhile, Tech Mahindra is yet to respond to the “work harassment” allegations made by Bhavana.
