The CBI has concluded that the NEET UG 2026 paper leak was not an isolated incident but a well planned operation involving multiple states. According to the agency’s chargesheet, confidential question papers were leaked by subject experts associated with the National Testing Agency and passed to candidates through a network of middlemen for huge amounts of money.
The investigation found that some subject experts who helped prepare and translate the question papers got early access to the exam. Instead of sharing the paper digitally, they allegedly dictated the questions from memory during secret coaching sessions to avoid leaving any digital evidence. Students wrote down the questions by hand before the exam.
The CBI has named 13 accused in its chargesheet, including subject experts, coaching operators and middlemen. The agency has relied on digital forensic reports, handwriting analysis and statements from hundreds of witnesses to support its findings.
The alleged leak forced the cancellation of the original NEET UG 2026 examination and a re examination was later conducted. The case has raised serious questions about the security of India’s biggest medical entrance exam and the systems used to protect confidential question papers.
Following the controversy, the NTA has started strengthening its security systems and announced additional measures to improve the safety of future examinations. The investigation is still continuing and more action could follow if new evidence emerges.
