Call Centre Scam: 21 Telugu Girls Arrested In Delhi

A call centre scam targeting people in Telugu states has been busted by the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau.

Police arrested 21 Telugu speaking women who were allegedly working as telecallers in Delhi. According to police, the group was running call centres in Delhi and targeting people in AP & Telangana with fake loan offers.

The callers allegedly introduced themselves as representatives of a finance company and promised quick and easy loans. After gaining the trust of victims, they asked them to pay money for different reasons.

Victims were reportedly asked to pay charges for loan processing, verification, documents and insurance. After receiving the money, the callers allegedly stopped responding or demanded more money.

Police also said that some victims were threatened when they questioned the payments or asked for refunds.

The arrested women are aged between 20 and 40. They were reportedly chosen because they could speak Telugu and could easily communicate with people in Telangana.

The scam is believed to have been running for around 18 months. Police have linked the network to 22 cybercrime complaints registered in Telangana.

During the investigation, officials seized several mobile phones and bank passbooks.

Police said the main people who allegedly organised the call centres are still absconding.

People should verify the company before accepting such offers and should never share bank details, OTPs or personal documents with unknown callers.
