250 Days! US Warship Crew Under Severe Stress

The mental health of thousands of US Navy sailors and Marines is reportedly becoming a serious concern as they remain at sea for months without a proper break. The crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln, with around 5,000 sailors and Marines, has now spent more than 250 days away from land.

Reports say some sailors tried to go overboard during the long deployment, raising concerns about the growing pressure on them. Families have also spoken about stress, exhaustion and uncertainty over when their loved ones will return home.

The aircraft carrier was expected to return earlier, but its deployment was extended as US military operations in the Middle East continued. The crew has had very little time on land during the long mission.

Families have also raised concerns about conditions onboard, including broken toilets, mold, laundry problems, shortages of basic supplies and poor food. Some US lawmakers have also warned that the pressure on sailors and their families is increasing.

Military families recently met senior Navy officials and demanded answers. They said the repeated deployment extensions were affecting the physical and mental well being of their loved ones.

However, the US Navy has disputed some reports. Officials said they have not found an increase in reported suicidal thoughts or suicide attempts among the crew. They also said mental health professionals, chaplains and counselors are available to help sailors.
