Nepal Floods: At least 150 Dead, 133 Indians Still Missing

The catastrophic flash floods in Nepal have caused irreparable damage to infrastructure and took away the lives of more than 150 people. The toll keeps mounting with each passing hour as rescuers retrieve more dead bodies from the flood affected areas. Several Indian tourists are still missing.

As per latest reports, at least 157 people are declared dead and more than 800 people still missing after the devastating floods struck the border villages of Nepal – Tibet due to the sudden deluge caused by the overflowing of Bhote Koshi river in the mountainous region.

Among those who are still out of contact include tourists from various countries including India. Nearly 133 people from different Indian states who went for sightseeing and the famous Khailash Mansarovar pilgrimage are yet to be traced.

Severe weather and damaged roads have cut off mobile networks and power, making it hard to reach survivors. Nepal has sent its army and air force to lift stranded people out of danger.

The natural disaster started after a massive landslide and glacier collapse along the border on Wednesday afternoon. The movement created a seismic shock equal to a 5.2-magnitude earthquake. This sent millions of tons of mud, ice, and water rushing into local rivers, flooding towns down the valley.

Meanwhile, India has sent ten tonnes of emergency aid, including food, medicine, and shelters. Authorities in northern India are on high alert as rising floodwaters move across the border.
