Sanju Must Replace Ruturaj As Captain? What’s the Verdict?

The Chennai Super Kings is one of the most successful franchise in the history of the IPL as they have won the trophy 5 times till now. They are the equal highest holders of the IPL trophy along with Mumbai Indians.

However, the recent years have been very problematic for Chennai, as not only have they been failing to win the IPL, but struggling to put in decent performances in the tournament. This became particularly prevalent after Dhoni started to hit sidelines due to age and injury factors.

Now there is a lot of pressure on the incumbent captain of the CSK team, Ruturaj Gaikwad. He has been failing individually as a player and has been struggling to make strong decisions as the captain.

In this connection of former player for the CSK franchise, Ramesh Sandagoppan has publicly said CSK must seriously consider the area of replacing Sanju Samson as the captain in place of Gaikwad.

Ramesh revealed that Sanju has a better ability as the captain in IPL as he had maintain 50% success rate with Rajasthan earlier. He said that he is a different kind of a player when holding captaincy and also has a reasonable success rate. Along with that, Raj could also benefit from losing accountancy as it would take pressure on him and allow to bat freely.

This is a strong argument from the former CSK player, and it is also resonating with the recent feedback from fans. However, CSK management is known to take strong decisions and stick with them, regardless of the result.

So only time will tell if CSK will actually decide to fire Gaikwad and replace him with Sanju Samson as the captain before the start of the 2027 season.
