Another day and another tragedy happened in New Delhi. Reportedly, a multi-storey building collapsed on Sunday afternoon in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area, leaving several people trapped under heavy debris.
The unfortunate incident happened around 1:30 pm and rescue teams immediately reached the spot. Preliminary reports suggest that many students are among the victims and a few are in critical condition.
The area is very popular among college students because it sits near Delhi University’s South Campus. The collapsed structure was being used as a paying guest hostel, so many young students were present inside when the accident happened.
Witnesses said they heard a huge crashing sound that felt like an earthquake, followed by a thick cloud of dust. Some people nearby mentioned that work on the basement was going on, which might have weakened the building’s main pillars.
Several avoidable similar incidents took place in the national capital in the last few months and many innocent lives were lost. This is another unfortunate accident which needs strict action against those who are responsible.
