Signal-free ride from Banjara Hills to ORR 

Daily traffic between Banjara Hills and Gachibowli, Hyderabad’s IT corridor, has become a huge head-ache for daily travellers. Especially, during morning office hours, the traffic is at peak showing colours to daily commuters. In a significant step to control the traffic, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has planned for the new elevated corridor between Banjara Hills-Gachibowli. It is going to be a 9 km elevated corridor connecting Banjara Hills Road No. 12, near the Command Control Centre, with the Shilpa Layout flyover near Gachibowli.

The corridor is planned in two phases. The first phase will cover around 5 km from Film Nagar to Shilpa Layout, while the second phase will cover about 4 km from the Command Control Centre to Hakimpet Kunta.To ensure smooth entry and exit, ramps have been planned at six key locations. Film Nagar (Road No. 82), Narne Road, Jubilee Hills Road No. 52, ITC Kohenur Road, T-Hub Junction and Mindspace.

The massive project, estimated to cost Rs 1,656 crore, will be developed on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) model. The corridor has also been designed keeping future Metro expansion in mind, allowing a Metro rail route to be developed along the corridor if required.

Signal-free ride from Banjara Hills to ORR

The biggest advantage of this elevated corridor is it provides signal-free journey from Banjara Hills to the ORR, avoiding several of the city’s serious traffic bottlenecks. More importantly, the corridor will provide a direct link from Banjara Hills towards Gachibowli and the Outer Ring Road, effectively functioning as another radial connection to the ORR. 

Once completed, the elevated road is expected to significantly cut travel time for commuters travelling through Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills Check Post and the IT corridor, where traffic congestion usually happens.

The HMDA has invited tenders for the proposed 9-km elevated corridor. Online bids will be accepted until September 22, after which work is expected to begin once the tender process is completed. If executed as planned, the project could become a gamechanger for west Hyderabad, saving commuters significant time and easing pressure on the already overloaded road network.
