US company fires 80 Indian techies during Google Meet

Software professionals are living a nightmare due to the ongoing job crisis. Even those in senior level posts with decades of experience are being shown the exit door with just an email. The ongoing recession has been particularly painful for Indian techies who form the major workforce in the IT field.

In another shocking development that highlights the current plight and job uncertainty of techies, a US based company has reportedly fired 80 employees of Indian origin in a brutal 5-minute Google Meet video call. The sudden firing decision came without any advance notice or proper warning for workers who were working remotely across India.

Employees revealed that their official company access was blocked immediately after the quick video meeting ended. The short video call was hosted by senior company executives who simply read a prepared script about cost cutting and business restructuring.

Affected staff members said they were not even given a chance to ask questions or get proper explanation during the meeting.

The company management did not discuss severance pay or health insurance support properly during those five minutes. Only those who have put on one year service are likely to receive some compensation as per the company norms.

Similar quick firing incidents over Zoom and Google Meet calls has increased in recent months across the global technology sector. Also, some top MNCs like Oracle have simply dropped an email at 06 AM to its employees, asking them to resign immediately.

In the last few months, many other companies have slashed their workforce through mass layoffs due to the buildout of AI and its advancements.
