An Indian origin individual has been arrested by federal authorities in USA over a fake citizenship claim to vote in the 2024 General presidential election. He may be sentenced to jail for 10 years if proven guilty.
The person taken into custody is named Mukeshkumar Somabhai Chaudhari, an Ahmedabad based NRI who is living in USA. Officers from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations caught him after he was found to have violated voting laws.
Court papers show that the incident happened in the state of Minnesota during the busy voting period. Chaudhari signed a special voter signature certificate on November 5, 2024. As per State law, every person is required to swear or affirm they are a US citizen before casting a ballot.
Investigations revealed that the accused knew he was not a USA citizen when he signed that paper to vote. Non citizens who break voting laws will face strict criminal charges and quick deportation from the country.
Because of these actions, he now faces serious federal charges in court. He has been charged with giving false information in voting and making a false claim of citizenship. Legal experts point out that each count carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison if a judge convicts him.
Federal agencies say they are working hard to protect the integrity of local and national elections. They want to make sure that only real American citizens choose leaders for the nation. The investigation is underway and the final verdict will be out once the court completes all legal proceedings.
