While countries like India are trying to control population growth, Singapore is facing a different problem with its declining birth rate. To encourage people to find life partners, the Singapore government has introduced a dating app called FirstDate.
The app is designed exclusively for government employees aged 21 to 35 who are interested in finding a partner for marriage. It matches people based on their interests, hobbies and lifestyle preferences.
Unlike regular dating apps, FirstDate reportedly allows users to connect with one match at a time. Users must also verify their identities through Singapore’s government digital ID system.
The move comes as Singapore struggles with a declining number of births. Fewer than 30,000 babies were reportedly born in the country in 2025, highlighting its growing demographic concerns.
However, restricting the app to government employees and people below 36 has also raised questions. The government is currently testing the initiative, and its future will depend on how well it works.
