Hyderabad police have stepped up surveillance at Jubilee Hills pubs following complaints about alleged dating app scams and inflated bills.
Since January, police have reportedly received over 70 complaints, with victims losing more than ₹35 lakh.
In some cases, men who met women through dating apps were taken to pubs or restaurants and presented with huge bills. There are also allegations that some pubs are involved in these practices and deliberately inflate bills.
Cybercrime police and SHE Teams are investigating the complaints to determine whether cheating or illegal collections took place. Police have also warned pubs against serving alcohol to minors and violating closing-time rules.
With complaints continuing to emerge, people are advised to stay alert when meeting strangers through dating apps, particularly when choosing pubs and restaurants.
