Modi And Biden Had First Phone Conversation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the new US President Joe Biden on Monday for the first time after the latter’s inauguration in January. Modi tweeted that he had a phone conversation with Biden and discussed on regional issues, “our shared priorities” and express commitment to a “rules-based international order”.

A communique from the Prime Minister’s Office reads that India-US partnership is “firmly anchored in a shared commitment to democratic values and common strategic interests”. It further read, “They reiterated the importance of working with like-minded countries to ensure a rules-based international order and a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region”.

“President @JoeBiden and I are committed to a rules-based international order. We look forward to consolidating our strategic partnership to further peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond,” PM Modi said in another tweet.

The White House also released a statement saying that President Biden “underscored his desire to defend democratic institutions and norms around the world and noted that a shared commitment to democratic values is the bedrock for the U.S.-India relationship,” in a phone call with Modi.

Both of them spoke on global climate change and discussed the way of cooperating to it. “Prime Minister welcomed President Biden’s decision to re-commit to the Paris Agreement and highlighted the ambitious targets India has set for itself in the area of renewable energy,” his office said.

Joe Biden is the 46th President of the United States and as soon as his inauguration, PM Modi had congratulated him on Twitter with a series of tweets. “We have a substantial and multifaceted bilateral agenda, growing economic engagement and vibrant people to people linkages. Committed to working with President @JoeBiden to take the India-US partnership to even greater heights,” PM Modi tweeted.
