A higher official in the police department committed suicide at Appu Ghar area in the city. Krishna Varma, who had been discharging duties, as the DSP of special branch in Srikakulam district, ended his life by hanging himself to the ceiling fan in his house at Appu Ghar on Friday afternoon.
His family members said that Varma had been suffering from lung cancer for the last few days. He had been taking treatment for it but the disease got aggravated in the last few days.
On information, several police officials reached Varma’ house and consoled the bereaved family members. Police filed a case and began investigation.
