A Dangerous Variant To Become Dominant In The US

As many as 12 states in the US have already eased Covid-19 restrictions his month, saying their Covid-19 trends improved and so did the vaccination numbers. But the health experts are worried about lifting restrictions, as they feel this is too early and there is a dangerous variant that is waiting to become dominant in the US.

As there are many new variants being identified lately, the highly contagious B.1.1.7 variant is projected to become the dominant variant in the US by the end of this month or early April. The B.1.1.7 variant cases have been found in 48 states so far and if the precautions are put at bay at this time, there could be sudden backsliding just like in the European countries, experts opine.

The US states have also been seeing large crowds heading to beach destinations with spring start. The air-travel has increased so much that the TSA said it screened more than 1.3 million people at airports last Sunday, which means at least 5 million people traveled since Thursday.

What is more worrying is that many crowds at beaches in Florida have not been following any precautions like mask-wearing.
