Sania Mirza: I don’t know when my Son will see his Father again

Many families are stuck at different places due to unprecedented lockdown and they are counting days hoping that they will someday finally get to meet their loved ones. Tennis star Sania Mirza and her husband and Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik also falls under the same category. The couple has been locked down in two different countries, with Sania in Hyderabad and Shoaib in Pakistan.

Also, their son, Izhaan is stuck with Sania in Hyderabad and its been several months the little boy saw his father. As we know, Sania is a busy player, travelling perpetually for her tournaments and she was stuck here in Hyderabad at the time of lockdown imposition by the Indian government. On the other hand, her husband Shoaib was playing for the Pakistan Super League when Pakistan went under a similar lockdown and hence, got stuck there.

Today, Sania expressed her dismay saying that it is very tough to handle a one-year-old child who barely understands the situation.”Shoaib got stuck in Pakistan and I got stuck here. That was very difficult to deal with because we have a small child. We don’t know when Izhaan will be able to see his father again. It’s as basic as that,” Sania said.

The ace tennis player also added that video calls are never a substitute for meeting in person and all she could think now is to have her family back together again. “We have left it to fate. I am really looking forward to being back as a family again and being at the same place. It’s really not been easy staying away from my husband and for Izhaan to stay away from his father. No amount of virtual video calls can do justice to actually meeting in person. I also look forward to a normal world where hugging and shaking hands become normal again, where we don’t think that we might die if we hug someone we love or kill them, you know.”

Due to uncertainty, Sania revealed that though she never had anxiety problems before, had panic attacks a couple of night ago. “I was lying in bed and thinking of things because having a toddler in the house, you don’t know how to protect yourself, how to protect your child, you have parents who are older. So, you are not really thinking about work or tennis,” she said.
