After Black & White, More Dangerous Yellow Fungus Surfaces

Even as the public and doctors are grappling with the onslaught of black and white fungus, there are reports of one person being diagnosed with yellow fungus infection, in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

The yellow fungus is reportedly more dangerous than the black and white fungus. Probably, this is the first case  of yellow fungus reported in the country. Currently, the patient is being treated at Dr Brij Pal Tyagi’s hospital run by an ENT surgeon.

Doctors said that the symptoms of yellow fungus include lethargy, low appetite, or no appetite and weight loss. Subsequently, it could also lead to severe symptoms like leakage of pus.

It is being said that yellow fungus is a fatal disease as it begins affecting the patient from inside and it is necessary that the affected person should go for immediate medical treatment as soon as he identifies the symptoms.

Patients infected by yellow fungus would also witness delay in healing of wounds as the fungus slows down the process. It could also lead to sunken eyes, organ failure and eventually to necrosis. Yellow fungus can be treated by administering amphotericin b injection, an anti-fungal drug.

It is believed that poor hygiene could cause yellow fungus infection. Getting rid of old food can help in containing the spread of yellow fungus. High humidity levels can also lead to the infection as it promotes the proliferation of bacteria and fungus. However, humidity can be between 30% and 40%.

Meanwhile, the Union Health Minister, on Monday, said that so far, 5,424 cases of Mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported from 18 states and union territories.

People with weak immune system, diabetes, cancer and other co-morbidities are prone to infections and hence, should remain alert and consult a doctor if there are any symptoms.
