While we are yet to recover from the second wave of the coronavirus, there are signs hinting at the arrival of the third wave as well, which will affect children more. The government of Maharashtra identified that more than 8000 children have contracted the virus in the month of May in Ahmednagar district alone.
The authorities are taking enough measures to tackle if there is any third wave of the virus. In the city of Sangli, a special COVID ward for children has been made recently. As of now, five children are undergoing treatment there and the officials are taking steps to increase its capacity. The authorities have also said that these wards are being built in a way that kids won’t feel like they are in a hospital but instead they feel like being in a school or a nursery. More of such wards are being made across the state.
Speaking to the media, Ahmednagar’s district chief Rajendra Bhosale said that they have witnessed 8000 positive cases among children in May alone, which accounts for about 10% of the total cases. This is quite alarming and thus, the government is preparing for the worst as they do not want to take any chances this time.
